Chamomile tea for dogs

As we’ve already mentioned before, chamomile tea for dogs can be administered as a tea for dogs or topically. Chamomile tea for dogs should be infused by:

  1. Boiling 250ml of water.
  2. Adding a chamomile tea bag and letting it infuse for a few minutes.
  3. Then, strain the tea and leave to cool.
  4. DO NOT add sugar or any other sweeteners.

You can then offer this chamomile infusion to your dog to drink using a water fountain. If your dog rejects the tea, you can administer it through a needless syringe of 5-10ml. Always apply it on the side of the mouth behind the fangs. Make sure to administer it slowly to avoid risk of chocking. Do not force this chamomile tea administration.

In the case of topical chamomile treatment, prepare the same infusion and apply it onto the skin using a gauze or piece of cotton wool soaked in the liquid. If you are cleaning a dog’s eyes with chamomile, make sure to use a new and clean gauze for each eye, always moving gently from the inside to the outside of the eye.

Chamomile tea for dogs dosage

As we’ve already mentioned, a dosage of chamomile for dogs will depend on a dog’s specific case. It’s also important to remember that even though a chamomile may work for some dogs, other dogs may be allergic to it. Therefore, a sensitivity check should always be performed when offering your dog any new medicine, be that natural or chemical. A veterinarian will be able to confirm and recommend a correct chamomile dosage for your dog based on an accurate diagnosis.

Chamomile can also act as a homemade flea repellent for dogs. This naturally remedy should only be used to complement a veterinarian’s antiparisitic and deworming schedule, but not as a replacement.

Chamomile for dogs: skin

Due to its soothing and antiseptic properties, chamomile can be used to help decrease symptoms of scabies in dogs. Soak a gauze in the chamomile infusion and pass it over the wound to relieve itching and calm irritation.
