Bow tie or scarf
If you are dressing your cat up for the first time, it is a good idea to use a simple accessory. Once they are used to wearing a collar all day long, they will not notice the difference if you put them in this outfit.
In order to make this easy costume for cats follow these steps:
- Find a shirt that you no longer use.
- Cut it right below the collar, keeping a button so that it can still be fastened as if it were a collar.
- Make a bow or a loop and sew it around the button hole so that it stays centered. It is not recommend to use safety pins, as they might hurt the cat.
- You can also create a different version simply using a piece of cloth mimicking a handkerchief or smart scarf. You can even add a hat.
- Put it on your cat.
Witch costume
This is certainly a simple costume, as it doesn't require many components. Being such a big hat your beloved pet may not be as comfortable wearing it. Still, it's a great idea for a McGonagall-looking cat.
To make a homemade witch costume for your cat, follow these steps:
- Get a small or child-sized witch's hat
- Sew black ribbons on each side
- Gently tie the ribbons under the cat's chin, but not too tight

Lion cat
The lion cat costume is not particularly difficult to achieve. You will need a fabric with hair or fur similar to that of a lion's mane, the thicker the better.
- Take the fur-looking fabric that mimics the lion hair and cut it in a triangular shape big enough to put it around the cat's neck.
- Sew Velcro so that both ends of the "mane" come together and join them around the neck.
- The pointed tip of the triangle will look like the end of the hair.
- Get a piece of smaller fabric for the tip of the tail and follows the same process. The fabric should be cut in a rounded shape so it looks like a ball - your cat will look adorable!
Hello Kitty
This costume is exclusively for white cats, because otherwise people will not understand what exactly the cat's supposed to be. To dress up your cat as Hello Kitty you will need white fabric, pink fabric and sewing knowledge, as the idea is to create a sort of hood.
- Draw the shape of Hello Kitty's head onto the white fabric.
- Cut it out and make an exact copy using the first one as a template.
- Make a hole that your cat can push its head through, but not too big.
- Sew both fabrics together to form the hood.
- Make the tie for the head and neck, following the steps for the cat with a bow tie.
- Sew all the parts together to join them. Do not use pins or safety pins; it's better to use Velcro.
- Finish it off by sewing on a few whiskers.
Spider cat
This costume is designed especially for pranksters or sinister people - or cats. It is still a fairly simple costume to make for those who cannot resist after seeing the final images.

- Get yourself a large stuffed spider toy. You can also use fabric, your sister's small jumper or whatever you can think of - originality will be rewarded with the final result. You can attach it to the cat's body with tape, Velcro, plaits...

- Add googly eyes, pincers or anything that might scare your neighbors.
