Recommendations for bathing a dog with white fur

We should not wash our dog's hair too much just because it is white. The bathing frequency should be once a month. Remember that dog skin is very sensitive and excess bathing could damage it. We will use a bleaching shampoo, which usually has a blue or violet hue, to help remove stains and brighten the dog's fur. Then to keep the dog's fur white follow this process:

  1. Soak the dog with water and apply a little shampoo down his back.
  2. Rub all the fur and let sit for a few minutes.
  3. Rinse and make sure there is no shampoo residue.
  4. Use good quality conditioner after shampooing. This will give it a healthy bonus and avoid capillary porosity and staining.
  5. Dry your dog with a towel.
  6. Between each bath clean your dog with baby wipes, these are soft and will not damage the sensitivity of the skin of your pet.
  7. You can dry shampoos once a day. Apply in the leg and beard areas.

Dog brushing

Daily brushing is very important to keep your dog's white fur in good condition. This will loosen debris and remove daily dirt which can result in permanent stains. If your dog has a short fur coat use a thick and hard bristle brush and if your dog has long fur use a more smooth and soft bristle brush. To maintain your dog's white fur we recommend using corn starch. This natural solution that helps absorb excess oil, cover stains, works like bleach and removes unwanted odors from fur. Apply as follows:

  1. Sprinkle cornstarch over the fur of your dog.
  2. Scrub and brush the fur coat with your fingers.

Baking powder

Baking soda works well with grey or stained coats as it is a natural bleach that will not damage your pet's skin.

Place the baking soda in the bathwater or blend to a thick paste and apply it directly on each stain.Brush the paste on the darker areas with an old toothbrush that does not have hard bristles, and let the paste dry on the fur. Leave to soak for a few minutes and then rinse well.

Beard, genital area and lacrimal

These are the most problematic areas and darken more easily. To keep and prevent staining you will have to be consistent in the following habits:

  • Wash your dog's eyes every day with special liquids to prevent oxidation. All details are in our article on tricks to remove stains from dog lacrimals.
  • For genital areas, just after returning from walks, be sure to clean the area with baby wipes, and if they have very long fur try to collect it. Baby wipes are gentle enough for their skin and prevent stains sticking to their hair.
  • In the case of the beard this always gets darker because it gets wet with water and dirty with food, dry it after drinking water and wash it after every meal.
