Is wet food good for cats?

In the wild, cats primarily feed on small prey such as birds, rodents, and even lizards. These provide them with all the proteins they need as well as a very high percentage of water that they need.

When we feed our cats high quality dry food, although they receive the nutrition they need, it will not have enough water. Our cat will need to drink enough water to complete their needs. However, many cats do not reach it and can be dehydrated.

That's why wet cat food, when well made and processed, is healthy for cats and ideal for their natural diet. In fact, contrary to popular belief, wet food generally contains fewer calories than dry food. That's why it's recommended for obese cats that are on a weight-loss diet.

The best brands of wet cat food

To choose healthy wet food for our cat we have to take certain aspects into consideration. Firstly, we must remember that, although cats may eat some vegetables at times, they are carnivorous animals. Therefore, their wet food must have meat as their first and main ingredient. Many wet cat food contains viscera. Although it's not safe for humans, it's said to be safe for animal consumption.

Another aspect we need to focus on is fat. Cats need essential fatty acids in order to be healthy. Other than protein and fat, they also need small amounts of vitamins and minerals. As for carbohydrates, they are not essential for cats. Some high-quality wet cat food are:

  • Sheba Paté Perfect Portions: is made without grains, corn, wheat, or soy and no artificial flavors or preservatives. Just high quality meat for your feline. They offer different flavors such as chicken, turkey and beef.

  • Purina Fancy Feast: offers high quality meat with a touch of milk and extra vitamins and minerals for your cat's wellbeing. This cat wet food is creamier than others.
