Blanc de Hotot: pictures and descriptions

The Blanc de Hotot is a pet rabbit created in France by Eugenie Bernhard in 1902, specifically in Hotot-en-Auge. Since its creation it has become very popular for its sweet appearance, although its availability is limited as there are not many breeders.

It is one of the most beautiful breeds of pet rabbit, as you can see from the picture. Amongst its physical characteristics we highlight its big brown eyes that are framed by a black circle that stands out from its white fur. The Blanc de Hotot loves to eat: if not controlled properly it can tend to obesity.

Its size is very small, which makes it suitable for living in a small apartment, although it also needs some time to run and exercise. Its personality is somewhat shy but eventually it will get used to your presence so that you can enjoy a quiet and gentle friend.

Rex: pictures and descriptions

The Rex rabbit comes in two sizes: The standard is usually large, weighing up to 5 kg, and the mini variety weighs only between 1 and 2 kg.

We can find this pet rabbit in all kinds of colours including black, chocolate, red or white, and it may also present blotches. Its main physical characteristic is that its fur is super soft to the touch.

The Rex pet rabbits are usually characterized by active personalities. They therefore need a family that will allow them to run around the house at different times of the day. You can set an area for that; it must be free of dangers so that you can leave the cage open. They are sociable and friendly.

Lionhead rabbit: pictures and descriptions

The Lionhead rabbit is very popular for its physical characteristics: long and fun fur which, as the name suggests, resembles that of a lion's head. Originally from Belgium, the Lionhead pet rabbit is considered a breed of its own. However, recently many breeders have developed crosses between them and the Lop rabbit, resulting in a slightly larger specimen.

They are not particularly large, its weight ranges between 1 and 2 kg. As you can see from the pictures, they come in many colours, always presenting a hairy head with medium / short body fur. It needs to be brushed occasionally.

The Lionhead rabbit stands out as a very good pet for those who love to hold the rabbit in their arms for hours, as its personality is friendly and calm. It will love being petted and cared for.

Lop: pictures and descriptions

The Lop pet rabbit is known for its physical characteristic: long floppy ears which give it a tender and melancholic appearance. Its personality is docile, calm, and especially sweet. You will fall in love with it for its gentle behaviour at home, and for its looks as well: check out the picture!

English Angora: pictures and descriptions

Despite its name, the English Angora comes from Ankara, Turkey. This is a medium / large size rabbit as its weight ranges between 2.5 and 3.5 kg.

This breed of rabbit is characterized by long silky hair (see the picture), and in some cases they are used solely for their wool. The English Angora colours vary: white, black, chocolate and chestnut among others. It will need brushing daily.

Their personality is generally very docile and quiet, but upon arrival at the home they will appear shy and reserved.

Dwarf rabbit: pictures and descriptions

The Dwarf rabbit is a very small rabbit that does not usually exceed 1.5 kg. Popular for its small size, it can live in very small apartments.

They have a sweet and tiny appearance with very characteristic short and rounded ears. The hair is soft and short and can be brown, grey, black or white, as in the picture.

It has a more independent personality compared to other types of pet rabbit: the Dwarf rabbit is especially fearful and suspicious of strangers. Over time it can get used to you if you show them that you are patient and friendly.

Flemish Giant: pictures and descriptions

The Flemish giant rabbit (from Belgium) is a very popular pet in farms worldwide for its huge size and good-natured appearance. They can weigh up to 10 kg and have a long and wide body that sets them apart from other breeds of pet rabbit.

We find them in all colours including black, blue, beige, grey, brown and white.

We often speak of it as a docile, quiet and very relaxed rabbit that coexists beautifully with all kinds of other pets, but we must never force the rabbit to interact if it does not want to do this. This large lazy animal needs a lot of room to move but you will usually find it lying down resting.

Tan: pictures and descriptions

The Tan rabbit is, as you can see from the pictures, the closest to a Rottweiler or Doberman in lagomorph form. They appeared in England in the late nineteenth century and are the result of a cross between wild rabbits and Dutch rabbits.

Its characteristic id that it seems to be in constant alert. It is an intelligent and curious medium size pet rabbit (weighing up to 2.5 kg). It has a nice and sweet personality that compensates its constant need to exercise.
